Building Community and Sharing Resources: The 2024 Winter Care Village in Oakland, CA

This past weekend, West Oakland’s Punks with Lunch hosted their annual Winter Care Village, an inspiring day of mutual aid, resources, and holiday cheer for the local community. LiquiDonate was proud to participate, hosting a table filled with items ordered by local nonprofits for the event. It was a privilege to be part of such a vibrant, community-driven initiative, where everything was completely free—a true testament to the power of collective care.

A Day of Generosity and Community Care

The Winter Care Village brought together businesses, nonprofits, and community members in an extraordinary display of generosity. From free acupuncture to haircuts, a free store stocked with warm clothing, and Santa distributing toys collected through local businesses like Edith’s Pie, the event ensured that attendees had access to essential items and joyful experiences alike.

Aburaya, a beloved local Japanese fried chicken spot, helped fuel the day with delicious food, while Punks with Lunch led harm reduction efforts with compassion and expertise. Other participants included the Berkeley Free Clinic, offering healthcare support, and a local organization providing medical equipment like wheelchairs and walkers.

At LiquiDonate, our mission is to connect retailers’ excess inventory and returned goods with nonprofits that need them most.
